Consequences of taking Protein Powder/Whey Protein?

I know they help build muscle, but what are the cons?

I work out about every other time, a lot of upper body lifting, but I never take Protein Powder because I reflect on it does some negative effect to my body.

What are the consequenses of taking it?

not much really. i hear in scarce cases (or if u got a already messed up body) you can get similar to liver failure or heart probs. i bought sum big bag of whey at costco. doesnt really appear to be doing much. i also tried Muscle milk, but its too expensive and gave me diareeha. im looking into sumthing called 'creatine'. u should too. from what i hear this is the best stuff out nearby (and seems pretty afordable of amazon.com) Source(s): lifter
None. Everybody needs protein. Everybody. You are simply doing yourself a giant disservice by not giving your muscles the neccessary nutrients to rebuild themselves after a workout. Take the protein. I enjoy taken it several times a day for years with excellent results. Blend it near a banana and some peanut butter right after your workout. Source(s): logic and experience
They don't help build muscle. Pure protein powder (whey or otherwise) is only just food. That's all. It helps you own a balanced diet, and with getting the extra protein an athlete requirements. Essentially, it's like you sucked the protein out of milk and powdered it.

So, with that within mind, it has the same consequences as ingestion extra food. If you need it, great; if you don't, it's just excess calories.

To be clear though, I'm conversation about regular protein powder. Once you start getting into weight gainers and pre workout supplements (creatine comes to mind), that's a different issue. Some are questionable, some are a moment ago fine.
Protein CAN turn into fat, if WAY too much is obsessed.
This is kinda rare though....but it IS well inside proteins genetic structure, it can be converted to fat.......but 90% of the time excess protein that is ingested will be turned into leftovers product.


But you CAN get laggy and weak workouts if you consume too much protein. Its happen to me several times.

Too much of nothing is ever good.

Just variety sure you drink plenty of water with protein!


Try to acquire over 70% of your protein from REAL WHOLE FOODS.
(nuts, steaks,chicken, fish,milk, soy milk,etc....)

Whey protein should ONLY be used as a supplement IN BETWEEN meals, or if you simply DONT have time to drink, a protein shake here and there will cover you!
Baby food has whey protein. Virtually all dairy products own some amount of whey protein. The protein in milk is 20% whey, so whey in its concentrated form should be clearly fine at any age as long as you are not lactose intolerant. Next time you are at the store look at the label on some baby formula. Even that have whey protein in it. none. you will gain weightiness if you take one with profoundly of calories. as a general rule you should drink a serving over 15-20 mins. so your body can absorb it. if you don't you'll extremity up in the can.
